The Heather Nelson Trio will be featured as the fourth concert  in The Performing Arts Studio’s Jazz in the Gallery Series on Sunday, January 20.  Music begins at 7:30 in the Norman Depot, 200 South Jones Ave.  There is no charge for the concert.  Light refreshments will be served.

Heather Nelson is an alumnus of the University of Central Oklahoma’s jazz program. She has been a working professional pianist in the Oklahoma City area for fifteen years and has appeared at the Edmond Jazz Festival, Jazz in June, and the Fort Smith Jazz Festival.  In 2004, Heather decided to give singing a try and has led her own trio ever since, playing many private events in Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas.

Johnny Nelson plays the fretless electric bass guitar and is also an alumnus of UCO’s jazz program. One of the most in-demand bass players in OKC he has performed with many area musicians and groups across a wide range of genres.

Justin Walke is a graduate of UCO’s Jazz Studies program and received his Masters from the Manhattan School of Music. Justin recently traveled to India where he studied with the renowned tabla master Pandit Probir Mittra.

“Those who love smooth jazz and bossa nova will not be disappointed at this concert.” says Nancy McClellan, PAS Director.  You can learn more about the Trio and listen to samples of their music at www.heathernelson.net.
