Jamie Coon Oklahoma native Jamie Coon will visit Norman to share her music with the Winter Wind audience on Sunday, March 30. The concert begins at 7:00 pm in the Norman Depot, 200 South Jones. Admission is $10. Complimentary refreshments will be served. Jamie Coon is regarded by many as one of the freshest sounding singers to come along in a while. Audiences are captivated by her soulful, angelic voice and her original soul-pop tunes. Her Native American heritage adds a spiritual element to her music which results in a natural, wide open feeling running though everything she sings. Jamie is a natural performer, connecting with the audience, ad-libbing between tunes and interacting with the crowd. There was always music in her home, exposing Jamie to a broad spectrum of musical genre at an early age. While still a teen, Jamie dedicated herself to music, writing songs, singing and learning to play the piano and guitar. Older rock, country and soul were early influences, but her hero was Elvis. She wrote constantly and it soon became obvious Jamie had found her calling.
She moved from Okemah to Los Angeles to attend the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, where she received the Outstanding Student of the Year award. After graduating from the Musicians Institute vocal program, Jamie has remained in California, where her music is continually reaching new audiences via concerts, film, TV and regional awards. Two of her songs appeared on the soundtrack of the indie comedy Long Term Relationship. Her single Breathe is heavily featured in Deceit, starring Joe Pantoliano and Jon Abrams. She recently signed an agreement with Riptide Music, a company placing music in national TV shows and her single, Waiting, was featured in an episode of the CBS drama Ghost Whisperer. Coon won the 2007 “Best Out of County Award” from the Orange County Music Awards. Closer to home, she was voted 2007’s “Singer/Songwriter of The Year” by the Payne County Line/Oklahoma Music Awards and, just recently, was voted 2008 “Female Vocalist of The Year” by the Payne County Line/Oklahoma Music Awards, with Waiting voted 2008 “Single of he Year.” Most recently, she has been nominated for both “Best New Artist” and “Best Pop Recording” in this year’s Native American Music Awards. “Jamie’s sweet voice and soul-pop music will be a lovely addition to the Winter Wind series” says committee member Emily Giles. “Oklahoma has produced another musical rising star.” For additional concert information, or to purchase tickets, contact The Performing Arts Studio at 405-307-9320.
