Terri Hendrix has always gone her own way.  She abandoned an opera scholarship because the classical music path proved too rigid for her free spirit.  She later fell hard for blues and jazz but refused to confine herself to one genre.  Folk, pop, country, Latin and country swing -- none of it evaded nor claimed her.  Having embraced her true calling as a singer-songwriter, she set out with a fierce determination to “own her own universe.”

Hendrix planted the seeds of her grassroots following in the small hippie college town of San Marcos, Texas.  By the time she hit Austin, she was well on her way to becoming one of the most strikingly original independent artists in Texas.  She seemed to come out of nowhere when she won “Best Singer-Songwriter,” “Best Folk Act” and “Best New Band” at the Austin Music Awards following the release of her second album Wilory Farm in 1998.

After that, Texas couldn’t fence her in.  With endless touring and widespread roots, Americana and public radio support, her fan base soon spread from coast to coast and all the way to Europe.  She really caught on nationally when she won a Grammy in 2003 for writing L’il Jack Slade, a song adapted by the Dixie Chicks.  Folk DJ Gene Shay, co-founder of the Philadelphia Folk Festival,  cites her as one of his top three contemporary female singer-songwriters.

Now, after nine critically acclaimed albums to her credit, Hendrix still approaches her craft as a means to connect with one person at a time, whether playing to an intimate listening room such as the Norman Depot, or to thousands at an outdoor festival.  Her audience spans generations as easily as her music crosses genre lines.

Famed guitarist/producer Lloyd Maines (also known as the father of Dixie Chick Natalie Maines)  signed on with Hendrix as her writing, recording, touring and business partner about 10 years ago.  Together, Hendrix and Maines mix “sunny humor and sparkling melodies with striking instrumental and vocal chops, displaying a particularly keen talent for finger picking and full on scat singing.” according to Rolling Stone.com.

“Terri’s charming stage presence, lyrics as smart and thought-provoking as they are heartfelt and personal, and a voice variously described as ‘divine,’ ‘effortless and delicate as Allison Krauss,’ ‘intimate and expressive,’ and ‘that of an angel,’ joined with the considerable talents of Lloyd Maines, will make this a Winter Wind Concert sure to be remembered” says Becky Grider, Chair of Winter Wind.  “Come and join us for this special treat.”
