ImageBe afraid.  Be very afraid.

Or just enjoy an evening of chair-gripping suspense, courtesy of the Second Stage Players senior theater group at 7 p.m. Oct. 30 in the historic Santa Fe Depot, 200 S. Jones Ave.

Second Stage Players, a program of The Performing Arts Studio, will perform three live scripts from Old Time Radio Mystery Theatre that first aired during the Golden Age of Radio.

"Zero Hour," written by legendary science fiction author Ray Bradbury, tells the story of children across the country deeply involved in a game they call “Invasion.” Their parents are amused until they realize the children are being used by aliens trying to get control of Earth.

In “The Hitchhiker,” a young man traveling across the country notices a hitchhiker calling out to him.  For some reason he is afraid of this man, and gets even more anxious as the hitchhiker appears at stops and every few miles.  The stranger’s mournful “Hallooow” sends shivers down the young man’s spine.  Who is he?

"The House in Cypress Canyon" is a tale about a Hollywood real estate agent about to place a sign advertising a new home where construction workers found a manuscript detailing a disturbing story about what would happen to the future occupants.

Formed in 2005, Second Stage Players perform various types of readers’ theatre, including live radio scripts, one-act plays and interpretive readings.

Tickets for the performance are available at PAS’s home in the Depot during regular business hours, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday.  Tickets are $7 in advance and $10 at the door.  All senior tickets are $7; admission for children age 12 and under is $3.
