Long time Norman resident Joan Phillips, PhD, will present a reading of her poetry on October 14 at the Norman Depot, 200 South Jones Ave.  The reading, presented by The Performing Arts Studio Second Sunday Poetry Series, begins at 2:00 pm.  Light refreshments will be served.  There is no admission charge.

Phillips poetry has been published in several literary journals as well as in Oklahoma Today magazine.   She says that her recent poetry collection, Rose Rock Petals, “is a compilation of poems inspired by and related to the 'state of mind' that is Oklahoma.”

Phillips, who has made Norman her residence since 1977, maintains a private practice of counseling and art therapy in downtown Norman.  She has presented her professional work as an art therapist in South Africa, Taiwan, South Korea and all over the United States.   She is a member of the faculty at the University of Oklahoma, and is a visiting lecturer at New York University and Florida State University.

Oklahoma fog

Sandburg’s little cat feet
May come into the bay
But here the fog lies like
Wet smoke on a morning meadow
It sprouts overnight
Grows soft and rank, low to the ground
Hovers briefly then with daybreak
Sinks to a puddle
Soon to be licked up by the barnyard cat
Fresh off a night of
Hunting snakes and mice
